Properties: white crystalline powder. It has the smell of sulfur dioxide and has an unpleasant taste. Part of the sulphur dioxide is lost in the exposed air and oxidized to sulfate. It is dissolved in 3.5 parts of cold water, 2 parts of boiling water, and about 70 parts of ethanol, and the aqueous solution is acidic.
Uses: 1. Used for bleaching cotton fabrics and organic materials; 2. Used as reducing agent in dyes, paper making, leather making, chemical synthesis, etc. 3. Used in the pharmaceutical industry for the production of intermediates of dipyridamole and aminopyrine ; 4. Food grade products used as bleach, preservatives, antioxidants; 5. For the treatment of chromium-containing wastewater, and used as an electroplating additive.
